Beaufort exec wins Drama Medal at 2013 National Eisteddfod

Research executive Glesni Haf Jones has won the prestigious Drama Medal at the Denbighshire and District National Eisteddfod with her play ‘Dŵr Mawr Dyfn' –‘Big Deep Water’.

The play tells the story of a young girl about to marry a man much older than herself – her mother’s ex-boyfriend – and she spends her hen night with her best and only friend. The young girl’s father lives in Liverpool and the play focuses on the girl’s plans to see her father for the first time since she was a teenager.

Glesni said “This is the first time I’ve written anything of this length and the first time I’ve competed at the Eisteddfod, but it’s given me a taste for more and I’d love to see my work performed on a stage.”

The Drama Medal is presented for the best composition in the drama section and is one of the highlights of the festival. Glesni was presented with the medal at an awards ceremony on the Maes on Thursday.
