Beaufort provides insight for Population Needs Assessment

Cardiff and Vale Integrated Health and Social Care Partnership has recently published its Population Needs Assessment report. The Social Services and Well-being (Wales) Act 2014 introduced a duty on local authorities and Local Health Boards to prepare and publish an assessment of the care and support needs of the population, including carers who need support.

We were commissioned to provide qualitative input into the process and carried out research among a wide range of groups. These included: children and young people; older people; people with health and physical disabilities; people with a learning disability and autism; people with mental health and cognitive impairments; adult and young carers; people with sensory loss and impairment; substance misusers; and sex workers.

Given the diversity of the groups researched, we provided a very tailored and sensitive approach to the discussions in terms of recruitment, format, the activities we used in the discussions, question phrasing and research settings.

We would very much like to thank all the organisations who helped us to reach participants for this important piece of work.
