Beaufort study helps Welsh social housing sector measure housebuilding progress

Community Housing Cymru (CHC) commissioned Beaufort Research and Houston Economic Consulting to help it better understand how the future of housebuilding looks in Wales.

The study revealed that the sector built 2,207 new homes in 2016/17 - an increase of 17% on the year before. Even so, the figures indicate that associations will need to nearly double their rate of housebuilding to around 4,000 homes annually to meet the ambitious new target of 75,000 new homes by 2036.

CHC, which represents housing associations in Wales, will announce the commitment as part of its 20-year vision for the sector at its annual conference in Cardiff today.
