Future of the Welsh language: Beaufort poll featured in S4C news and podcast

We were delighted to take part in a video podcast for S4C to discuss the results of our latest opinion poll.

The short poll asked a nationally representative sample of 1,000 people in Wales what their opinions were on a range of topics about the Welsh language.

The survey found that the Welsh population is largely supportive of children learning Welsh at school (78% agreed) and around half (49%) believe children in Wales should be fluent in Welsh by the time they leave school.

In addition, the survey found that almost two thirds disagree that speaking Welsh is mostly seen as something that middle class people do. Almost three quarters (73%) support the Welsh Government’s aim to increase the number of Welsh speakers to 1 million by 2050 and almost six in ten (58%) of the sample believe it’s likely that Welsh will still be spoken and used day-to-day in a 100 years’ time.

The survey was conducted via an online panel and the fieldwork took place between 6 and 11 June.
